FAQs

You can connect the HEX to your network and the Internet via Wi-Fi connection or directly by Ethernet cable.

• For a direct Ethernet connection, you will require a RJ45 cable with preferably a Cat 5e or better rating. Simply connect the cable to an Ethernet port on your router and connect the other end of the cable to the Ethernet port on the back of the HEX. The HEX will be automatically connected.
• For a Wi-Fi connection:
1. From the HOME screen, click on the Settings icon (icon with the 2 gear wheels), then click on More settings.
2. Select Wi-Fi on the menu (it should say ‘Disconnected’) and on the Wi-Fi screen turn the switch ‘On’ (if it is not already on).
3. Find your router name and click on it.
4. Enter a password if necessary. Note: Passwords are case sensitive.
5. Wait for the message under the router name to say ‘Connected’. You are now connected to your network and the internet.

Note: If the message under the router name says ‘Saved’ then you are not connected. This may be caused by an incorrect password.

Sometimes you may need to reinstall an app on the HEX because it has stopped functioning properly. Before you try the reinstall you can try a Force stop to see if that fixes the problem. However, if you must reinstall the app you will need the app’s ‘.apk’ file. If you have saved a copy of the ‘.apk’ file in the storage area of your HEX or on a USB stick or other portable storage device, simply find the file using a file browser on the HEX and click on the file to reinstall.

If you do not have a saved copy of the app’s ‘.apk’ file and the app is currently installed on your HEX, you can find a copy of its ‘.apk’ file using the file browser app ES File Explorer. Here’s how:

  • From the HOME screen, click on the ES File Explorer app (icon is on the right side of the screen and looks like a file folder).
  • In ES File Explorer, on the left side of the screen find the menu item Local. Just below it there should be the item Homepage. If Homepage is not there, click on Local and Homepage should appear below it.
  • Click on Homepage. On the upper right area on the screen there is an icon called APPS (green icon that looks like an android). Click on it to open the installed apps folder.
  • Find the app you need to reinstall, click-and-hold on the app to select it. On the bottom area of the screen, click on Backup to copy the app’s ‘.apk’ file.
  • Click the Backbutton on your remote to go back to the Home folder and find and click on the Backups folder, then the Apps folder. You should see the app you selected now stored in the Apps folder.

Before reinstalling the app, you need to uninstall the current version.

  • From the HOME screen, click on the Settings icon (icon with the 2 gear wheels), then scroll down to More settings and click on it.
  • Scroll down to Apps and click on it.
  • Find and click on the app, then click Uninstall, then click OK. The app will now be uninstalled.

Now you can go ahead and reinstall the app.

  • From the HOME screen, click on the ES File Explorer app (icon is on the right side of the screen and looks like a file folder).
  • In ES File Explorer, on the left side of the screen find the item Local. Two lines below it there should be the item Home, click on it.
  • Click on the folder Backups, then Apps and click on the app you previously saved and wish to reinstall.
  • Click on Install in the Message box, then click Install again in the lower right corner.

TV Boxes (5)

For some menu items or options on the HEX, and to use certain apps, you may require a mouse pointer on the screen. If you do not have an air-mouse type device, you can simply use the mouse pointer feature on the HEX standard remote. To activate this feature, find the ‘mouse’ button on the HEX remote and press it once. There will not be any indication that the mouse pointer feature is on, so to test it, simply press one of the arrow keys (up, down, left or right key) on the remote, the mouse pointer should appear and move in the direction of the arrow key you are pressing. To switch off this feature, simple press the ‘mouse’ button again. It is recommended you use some type of wireless mouse device when navigating on the HEX as it greatly enhances the overall experience of using the device.

Your dealer can offer different types of air-mouse remotes that are compatible with the HEX.

Note: You will need a pointer device such as an Air-Mouse remote control to navigate through the Speedtest app.

Like most electronics, a simple restart of the device normally fixes any freezing and glitches on the system. Just unplug the power supply, wait about 10 seconds and plug it back in. Wait for the HOME screen to appear and try the app again.

The HEX TV Box can only be connected to one TV at a time using the HDMI port on the HEX and on your TV. If you wish to use the HEX on another TV you can disconnect it from one TV and reconnect it to another TV. But if you want to use the HEX on both TVs at the same you will need to get another HEX to connect to the second TV.
